History of LifeWalk

LifeWalk began in 1990 as a means to raise funds for HIV/ AIDS services in Dallas. LifeWalk supports the following services & programs at AIDS Arms, Inc.:
-Operation of the only HIV-specific medical facility in South Dallas
-HIV Prevention & Testing to more than 3,500 people per year
-Case management, education & support services to over 3,400 people per year
AIDS Arms' LifeWalk at Lee Park

AIDS Arms' LifeWalk takes place at the Robert E. Lee Park & Arlington Hall Conservancy and is a 5k (3.2 mile) fun run/walk through beautiful Uptown Dallas. The conservancey, founded by the combination of five citizens groups in 1995, has been home to many weddings, breakfasts, and events.

Why do we need LifeWalk?

Dallas leads the state of Texas in new HIV infections
The Dallas metroplex has approximently 20,000 individuals that are HIV-infected
The Center for Disease Control estimates that 1/3 of HIV infected individuals DO NOT KNOW THEIR STATUS
AIDS is the leading cause of death for women age 15 -49 across the globe
AIDS is the third leading cause of death for Latinos age 25 - 44
African Americans, Latinos and gay youth make up the fastest growing groups of new HIV infections in the United States
African American men make up nearly 50% of all new AIDS cases in the United States
More than 1.4 million people in the United States are living with HIV/AIDS, with approximately 56,000 new infections each year.
