Why do we need LifeWalk?
- Dallas leads the state of Texas in new HIV infections
- Dallas has more than 20,000 individuals that are HIV-infected
- The Center for Disease Control estimates that an additional 30% are infected and DO NOT KNOW THEIR STATUS
- AIDS is the third leading cause of death for Latinos
- African Americans, Latinos and gay youth make up the fastest growing groups of new HIV infections in the United States
- African American men make up nearly 50% of all new AIDS cases in the United States
- More than one million people in the United States are living with HIV/AIDS, with approximately
40,000 new infections each year.
